"THE YEARS WHEN MY PATH CROSSED WITH THE YÖNTEM

It was 1991, my first year at Arçelik, and I was managing a department called Marketing Research and Advertising Directorate. Half of our job was research. Since the market information available to the company at that time was not very reliable, it was very difficult to develop sound strategies. In short, in order to make a strong marketing plan, you need very reliable market information.

At that time, there were a small number of strong research companies in our marketing sector and we needed to decide on one of them to create reliable market data. While meeting with some of them on a project basis, I became aware of a company that was 2-3 years old; its owner was from IU Faculty of Economics. This is how our first adventure with Yöntem and my dear friend Bülent Gündoğmuş began.

We conducted a great white goods penetration and brand study. As far as we know, there is no other sector research conducted on this scale until that day. It is easy to say that 24 provinces and 3600 subjects, the demographic infrastructure of the research represents Turkey at a rate of 95- 97%. We called it Elektreapanel.

This work also brought me success and reputation in my professional life. Arçelik's perspective on the concept called marketing research changed and we started to conduct a small or large research before every decision to be taken. This was due to the reliability of the first research we conducted with dear Bülent Gündoğmuş and its compliance with the business goals we set.

Later on, both at Koç Holding and during my consultancy period, I crossed paths with Yöntem quite frequently. During this period, Bülent Gündoğmuş gradually withdrew and handed the company over to his deputy, dear Mehmet Aktulga. However, the corporate culture was so strong that no pain was felt in this transition, nor did the company compromise its rigor. The same mental structure remained intact behind countless reliable marketing surveys.

In the last fifteen years, with one or two exceptions, I have always recommended Yöntem to many of the companies I have served. In some of these, we developed the research project together and Yöntem implemented and reported it flawlessly. Why have I recommended Yöntem and will continue to do so in the future? When recommending an institution to another institution, you should have confidence and peace of mind in the work to be done. I have always felt this peace of mind, and for this I thank both Bülent Gündoğmuş in the past and Mehmet Aktulga now.
